Picture this: You're curled up on the couch, surrounded by an impressive collection of blankets, and you're ready to get lost in a world of manufactured drama, scandalous secrets, and maybe, just maybe, a little bit of romance. If that sounds like your ideal evening, then you probably get why I'm obsessed with books set in the world of reality TV. So when I scored an early copy of Isabelle Engel's Most Eligible from NetGalley, I basically sprinted to my reading nook.
The premise? Pure gold. Our heroine, Georgia Rose, isn't there for the roses—she's on a mission to expose
the whole dating show machine for a juicy exposé. But then, enter stage right: Rhett Auburn, the country singer host who just happens to be her one-night stand from a year ago. Seriously, how do you not immediately need to know what happens next? The book absolutely sizzles when Georgia and Rhett are sharing these heated, secret moments away from the cameras. Their chemistry is electric, and it was the main reason I couldn't put the book down.
But here's the honest truth, and why it's a solid 3-star read for me. While the premise is brilliant, some of the plot beats felt like I'd seen them on an episode of my favorite dating show already. I was just hoping for a bit more originality in the twists and turns. I also found myself wishing the book had lingered longer on the emotional fallout and character development. The ending felt a little rushed, and I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to Georgia and Rhett just yet.
So, would I recommend it? Absolutely, with a small caveat. If you're looking for a quick, fun escape that perfectly captures the addicting vibe of a show like The Bachelor or Love Island, this is a fantastic choice. It's a breezy, fun read that delivers on its promise of drama and behind-the-scenes romance. It just didn't completely sweep me away for a five-star finish.
